No Greek or Turkish team in the Eurocup Top16

I am not sure if it’s about the economic crisis visible since a decade in Greece and Turkey or the Covid-19 or simply bad circumstances but these 2 countries won’t have any squad present in the Top16 of the Eurocup. So, no chance for another team from Greece or Turkey to enter in the Euroleague next season.

The effect of this absence is that Eurocup is losing the attention of millions of fans from two important countries in European basketball.

The Turkish and Greek presence in the Eurocup this year was reduced because many teams migrated to Basketball Champions League. Turkey had only 2 represents, Bahcesehir and Bursaspor and those teams in spite of having a competitive roster, played selfishly and lost all the opportunities to qualify. Together Bahcesehir (1-8) and Bursaspor (0-7) totalized only 1 victory from 16 games played till now in the Eurocup. Not a good record, isn’t it?

Promitheas had a better chance, but the covid cases affected the team. If they would have won the game at Cedevita last week they would have been 90% qualified to the Top16. In spite of starting very well the game, they eventually lost and they are mathematically out. Some changes will be made as well in the roster, soon.

I think Eurocup should do something to attract more teams from Greece and Turkey in the competition for the future because we speak about two countries that mean a lot in European basketball.
