Philadelphia 76ers

Philadelphia, a team that have been always playing against the odds, had quite some good assets playing for them throughout time. They managed to play some NBA Finals, while winning three championships in total. The first one came in 1955 while they were being name the Syracuse Nationals. The second one was in 1967 against the San Francisco Warriors, with the help of the Warriors former player, nobody else but the great Wilt Chamberlain, who was in San Francisco before that season. He averaged some crazy numbers in those three and a half years spent there, with stat lines such as 33,5 PPG, 24,6 RPG, 5,2 APG and 2,2 blocks-per-game in his second year as a 76er. Those are video game like numbers, but as great as Wilt was, they only grabbed one trophy until he was gone to the Los Angeles Lakers. After that departure, they have struggled some years while they were trying to rebuild their roster. The next title came in 1983, sweeping the Lakers in the Finals, with Julius Erving and Moses Malone being those who were leading the team back then, two future Hall of Famers and legends of the game. After that period was over and Erving retired in 1987, the 76ers suffered once again as a franchise and they only managed to get to the Finals once until now, in 2001, when Allen Iverson was in the prime of his career. Unfortunately for them, Iverson’s team lost in 6 game to the Lakers, who were lead by the legendary duo formed of Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal back then. Since that Final, they couldn’t reach another one, even though Allen Iverson was playing so good for them. Once again, when he left Philadelphia, the franchise went through yet another rebuilding process which lasted some years, a period in which they were at the bottom of the league many times. But as the general manager told their fans to “trust the process”, they got two very good draft picks in Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, who are two players that have the potential to be their franchise players for a long time.
