The greatness of Mike James

I really see Mike James as one of the best guards ever in the history of the Euroleague. He is the perfect combination between a great shooter and a dunker. Explosive, smart, brave. But his main strength is the cold-blooded killer instinct in the key moments of the game.

I remember him with previous teams, Panathinaikos and Armani Milano when he came with the ball in the last possession of the game, jumping and being fouled on the shot attempted from the arc. Of course, he made 3 from 3 at the free-throw line taking the battle into the overtime and winning it.

The same cold blood has been present yesterday in the last seconds of the clash between CSKA and Zalgiris when the American guard has sealed the victory for the Red Army with a huge 3 pointer ‘in your face’ at the score 82-82. Even coach Sarunas Jasikevicius had nothing to say because he was stoned by that shot. But the most amazing thing is that Mike James had 0/3 from the arc before his last shot. He seemed not to be the proper guy to take that deep 3 pointer but he did it with a champion mentality. He did it because he believed in himself and I think this is the best part of Mike James. The true confidence in his powers, which makes him a super player more than his physical skills.

And as a final thing to shut up all Mike James’ haters, I will tell you this: he cannot be compared with his replacing fellow at Armani Milano, the ex-NBA-er, so praised Shelvin Mack. Let the stats speak for himself: Mike James is on the 3rd spot at index rate category in the entire Euroleague after Shane Larkin and Tornike Shenghelia, while Shelvin Mack is only at 192 position! That’s why we call him ‘the one and only Mike James’.
