The true derby of the round: Olympiacos vs. Olimpia Milano
Because of many missing players due to covid-19 and injuries, a couple of the games of this Euroleague rounds lost their attraction. We all know now that Real Madrid will smash Khimki or Fenerbahce will have an easier game with CSKA etc. The only true derby is the encounter between Olympiacos Piraeus and Armani Olimpia Milano. That battle has to be very tied.
First of all, Olimpia Milano has big expectations for this season and they want to win anything. They built a strong roster and they are hungry for trophies. Now, in the absence of Kevin Punter and Vlado Micov, their offensive capacity is a bit reduced, but they still a great squad that can cause trouble to anybody home and away.
On the other side, we have the experienced team of Olympiacos, that conserved the spirit of the former back to back Euroleague champions. Kostas Sloukas, Georgios Printezis and the veteran Vassilis Spanoulis helped by other notable Greek players and a bunch of American legionaries could be always a dangerous cocktail. Last week they smashed PAO in Athens and let’s not forget they are not competing in the Greek league. So they can rest for the Euroleague games more than any other team, which should be of great help especially in the double round weeks. Other European clubs have sometimes 4 games in 8 days travelling the whole of Europe while Olympiacos could prepare only for the Euroleague. Let’s see if this advantage will work today against Olimpia Milano.
