This is Baskonia level. A shadow of past glory
I don’t think is Pedro Martinez fault for the Baskonia’s poor results. Of course, the easiest way is to fire the coach than to fire almost the whole team. But with or without Pedro Martinez, Baskonia is not the title contender they wanted to be. The roster is weak on both aspects, offense and defense, it’s low budget, inefficient, it’s for example, like inviting some friends to build your plane, when you need professional staff to do it. This doesn’t work for the Euroleague level.
Changing the coach, without bringing in 2-3 quality players will give almost the same results as now. And changing the attitude of the remaining players is very important, too. Besides the big man Shengelia, I could not name a player who plays constantly good, trying to give everything on the court.
This is a huge historical possibility for Baskonia, they host the Final4 and they can manage to be in it, maybe to win the Euroleague. But not with this roster. 2-3 new serious players have to be added. If you compare this squad with let’s say 2009-2010 Baskonia’s roster the difference is huge. Players like Tiago Splitter, Mirza Teletovic, San Emeterio, Brad Oleson and so on would destroy the actual team of Baskonia. First of all, the difference between the former Baskonia and this one is made by attitude and dedication, by the fight for every possession of the ball, and second, because former players were really more intelligent and basketball skilled than the players that Baskonia has now.
