Totally agree with Real Madrid: the last basket shouldn’t count
After the article where I spoke about the “unseen” foul on Chris Singleton, it’s time now to analyze the last basket of the Copa del Rey. This basket was scored by the referees after a completely legal block made by Anthony Randolph on Ante Tomic.
The referees didn’t see that the ball touched the rim first? I saw it on TV at the moment of the game. Me, on a small screen of a betting website and 3 referees, probably the best in Spain with an official review were not able to see that?
And another curious thing: the refs didn’t see the ball touching the rim, but they “saw” the ball touching the backboard? When the ball almost didn’t touch the backboard before Anthony Randolph’s block. And if you analyze the angle of the ball movement you will clearly see this. You don’t need to be Einstein to realize that. Even a referee with no studies at all can notice that: the trajectory of the ball is opposite of the trajectory of a valid basket. If the backboard would have had another basket, maybe in that one the ball left by Tomic’s hands could enter. But in this normal basket, no chance at all.
Rewatch again here the final minute of Copa del Rey:
