Maccabi: 7% from 3 points at halftime!!!
If your shooting percentage is like in Albanian championship, you don’t have any chances to beat the Euroleague reigning champions! This had to be explained to Maccabi Tel-Aviv players before the last night game against Real Madrid. It was a nightmare for the Israeli team from the beginning till the end. Rarely I’ve seen such a helpless team in what was supposed to be a Euroleague derby.
At the break time, they scored just 23 points with an embarrassing percentage from the arc: just 1 from 14 which means 7% and a total field goal of 10 shots made from 35 attempts! With these numbers, you don’t beat poor teams from Fiba Europe Cup, but you compete in Euroleague, remember?
Even if the referees helped Maccabi, they were not able to reduce the proportion of the disaster and the host team lost the game with 66-87. Till the end the numbers of Maccabi remain still poor: 20% on 3 points range, allowing instead 48% to Real Madrid, who made as well 19 rebounds more than the Israeli team.
I can resume the whole difference between these 2 teams in terms of rebounding and 3 points percentage because there was the problem: Maccabi couldn’t face Real tough centers and they shoot miserable from the arc and defend miserable the opponents. Imagine that Anthony Randolph, Rudy Fernandez, Jaycee Carroll and Sergio Llull combined for 14 from 20 on 3 points!!!
Let’s see if this statistics will change when Tarik Black is back for Maccabi.
