The playoff series: Fenerbahce Zalgiris, stats and facts

This was a matchup where nobody gave a chance for Zalgiris, despite the fact they had a very good run at the end of the regular Euroleague season. But Zalgiris fought for their chance and won one game away, a result that surprised many basketball fans. This duel was one between a huge budget and a low budget, a team full of superstars and experienced players against a roster full of passion and determination. But for Zalgiris, the passion wasn`t enough to pass over the Turkish powerhouse.

Let`s see the results and the interesting facts from each game:

  • Game 1 was a game without a history. I mean it can be named the worst game ever for Zalgiris in their Euroleague history. They lost the game, scoring only 43 points compared to 75 from Fenerbahce. Also, they had 34% field attempted made and 21 turnovers. The best man on the court was Nikola Kalinic from Fener with 16 points and 3 rebounds.
  • In Game 2 we saw a different attitude from Zalgiris. They won 82-80 in a game where they scored 70% from their 2 points attempts. Fenerbahce tried the comeback in the fourth quarter when they won with 22-9, but it wasn`t enough. The MVP of the match was Ulanovas from Zalgiris scoring, not only the winning bucket but also 20 points and made 7 rebounds.
  • Game 3 presented us a low scoring game, thanks to the low percentages from both teams in terms of field goals made – 38.5% for Zalgiris and 35.6% for Fenerbahce. At halftime, the score was close, 34-31 for Zalgiris, but in the second half, Fenerbahce outscored the Lithuanian team 35-23. They had 12 steals in the game. The main scorer of the game was Marko Guduric with 17 points.  For Zalgiris, the main scorer was Nate Wolters with 15 points.
  • In Game 4 everything was very simple: Fenerbahce played a sensational match! They scored 99 points and scored 70% of their field goal attempts, including 15 out of 22 attempts from the 3 point line. Also from the free-throw line, they made 10 from 11 attempts. In the assists column, they registered 24. Ali Muhammed, scored 25 points with 5 of 5 from the 3 point line and also 4 assists and 3 steals. Another player from Fenerbahce that made a big game was Kostas Sloukas. He finished with 15 points, 10 assists, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. In the other team, Brandon Davies scored 25 points with 7 rebounds and Nate Wolters had 18 points, 4 assists and 2 steals.

In my opinion, Zalgiris did everything they could in this series, but Fenerbahce was way too powerful for them due to a strong roster and a legendary coach. However, I want to thank Zalgiris for their passion and determination. It was a pleasure to watch them this season. Good luck in the future!
