Zalgiris melt like cheese in the 4th quarter

The last year Final 4 participant, Zalgiris Kaunas made one of the worst 4th quarter ever at Khimki Moscow Region. Before the last stanza, the Lithuanians were ahead with a comfortable 9 points, after a strong 3rd quarter (19-11). They had just to keep up the rhythm for the next 10 minutes, but they couldn’t.

Zalgiris fell in front of the Russian squad plagued with injuries (Anthony Gill is done for the season and Alexey Shved is still missing). Even more, yesterday night, another American of Khimki, Garlon Green and Andrey Zubkov didn’t play.

And in these circumstances, Khimki came back in the 4th quarter from 47-56 to tie the game at 61 with less than 5 minutes left. At this point, Zalgiris has lost control of the situation and were outscored by Khimki with a 13-0 run (74-61).

The final 5 minutes were a real catastrophe for the visitors who manage to score just 3 points, losing the 4th quarter with an embarrassing 27-8!
