This week we have the first double round of the Euroleague season. One of the most awaited derbies will take place in Istanbul where the local team, Fenerbahce will host CSKA Moscow. Normally it should be a derby but now due to Covid-19, it seems that will be an easy game for the Turkish powerhouse.
Fenerbahce starts with the first chance this encounter because:
  • CSKA had 3 COVID cases and recently Johannes Voigtman injured as well. So the roster is diminished and Dimitris Itoudis will have to complete it with some Russian youngsters. Actually, CSKA will have only 7 good players available for this game.
  • Fenerbahce is coming after an easy game won at home against the worst team in Turkey, Fethiye Belediye. Fenerbahce smashed them with 40 points margin, even if they have rested many important players.
  • Danilo Barthel and Leo Westermann started to train back with the team and probably they will be ready at the game time with CSKA, which will give Fenerbahce a 12 men quality rotation. Even without them, Fenerbahce smashed Anadolu Efes last week in the Euroleague, proving their excellent shape.
This encounter represents a good opportunity for Fenerbahce to consolidate their good start in the Euroleague against a team very affected by missing players. In my opinion, the Turkish side has to take advantage of the situation and win by as many points they can because you never know what will happen in the future when they will face CSKA in Moscow. In the case of a tie for a better spot in Euroleague playoffs, these games are crucial.
