Nick Calathes

Nick Calathes career started in 2009, as he signed with Panathinaikos after refusing to get in the NBA Draft. While playing for the Greek powerhouse, Calathes reached the EuroLeague Final in 2011, and won it against Maccabi Tel Aviv. He had 4 points, 6 assists and 2 steals in that game. In that same season Nick won his second Greek League title with Panathinaikos, making a very good match in the Final game, posting 16 points, 11 assists and 5 rebounds. Despite of all that improvement, he left the club and joined Lokomotiv Kuban in 2012, a Russian team. While being there, he was named the EuroCup’s season MVP, and this feature got him in the NBA, as he signed with the Memphis Grizzlies after spending only 1 year in Russia. After arriving on the biggest stage of basketball, he started his NBA career with a Rookie of the Month award, a month in which he averaged 10,7 points, 4,6 assists and 3,6 rebounds per-game. It was the best achievement of his NBA career, because he went in a vacuum after that and he was not even a reliable role player for his team. However, at the beginning of 2014 he was found positive on some substance and he was suspended for 20 games. Even though some thought that it was an injustice, as the substance that they have found was actually an ingredient in some kind of a supplement that he was taking, his time in the NBA was more likely over, so in 2015 he saw himself in need to return overseas. Just like that, he signed again with his former team, Panathinaikos, and since then he improved his skill sets and won several trophies with the team, such as the Greek Cup, the Greek championship title, as well as making the All-EuroLeague First Team in the 2017-18 season. In the summer of 2018, he signed a new contract with the organization that lasts until the 2020-21 season.
