Asvel Lyon

Asvel Lyon

Asvel Lyon the team where future NBA Hall of Famer and multiple NBA Champion, Tony Parker, started his career. Currently, he is the Team President and the part owner of the franchise. Nicolas Batum, also a player in the NBA, has a position of director of basketball operations. The Lyon based team is a force in France, as they currently have 18 French League titles, 8 French Cups, 2 French Super Cups and 1 A Leaders Cup. As for the European competitions, the organization didn’t manage to win something abroad in their history, but they were semifinalists two times in the Euroleague, and once in the Final Four, but this was way back in time, during the late ‘70s, respectively late ‘90s. Since then, Asvel Lyon did not achieve anything in Europe. Their best result in the recent year was in the 2017-18 season, when they have gone all the way through the top-sixteen in EuroCup. Alain Gilles and Delaney Rudd are the only two players in the franchise history that have their jerseys retired. Alain Gilles played between 1965-1986 and the American Delaney Rudd played from 1993 until 1999. Recently, they got the biggest sponsorship contract in France basketball history, from LDLC, and they want to build a new arena. Asvel Lyon will be the only France team to participate in the Euroleague after a three-year drought.
