Alba Berlin

Alba Berlin

Alba Berlin is the most successful team from Germany. Alba have won 8 Bundesliga championships in their 28-year long history as a club. Most of that time they ended up in the top-three, being on a lower seed only six times. They also won the German Cup nine times, while being a runner-up three times. So, it is safe to say that they have been a force in their domestic league. As for the German Supercup, they proclaimed it three times, in 2008, 2013 and 2014. In the European leagues, though, they only managed to win one Korac Cup, in the 1994-95 season, and other than that, nothing. They have been playing in the Euroleague thirteen times, their best result being a Second Qualifing Round. Alba Berlin also played in the Eurocup, being the runners-up for two times, in 2009-10 and recently in the 2018-19 season. But, other than that, they didn’t make any surprise anymore, as they were constantly eliminated in the top16. In a friendly game versus the reigning NBA champions, the San Antonio Spurs, held in the O2 World, Berlin, Alba stole a win, beating them 94-93. Surely, it was a friendly game, but it was kind of an performance for them at that time. The organization has currently retired two numbers in the rafters, the one of Henrik Rodl, who played there between 1993 and 2014, and Wendell Alexis’ jersey, an American who played six years in Berlin, between 1996-2002.
