Cantu

 Cantu

The history of Cantu goes well back in time, as they were first initiated in 1936. Since then, they added three Italian League trophies and two Italian Supercups to their trophy room. As for the international scene, Cantu also has two Euroleagues, four FIBA Saporta Cups, four FIBA Korac Cups and two FIBA Intercontinental Cups. However, all these international trophies have been won well before 2000. In the recent years they haven’t been too relevant in the domestic league, as they managed to get the second position only in the 2010-11 season, this being the best seed in the recent years. They also missed the playoffs a few times and that was mainly because of the lack of money. Despite of all that, they were present in the Europe leagues for a few years, and even if they didn’t manage to get too far in those competitions, they took it as an experience. In 2016 the management of the club took the decision to renew their arena in order to meet the European leagues standards. The capacity of the arena will boost from 3,910 seats to 5,634. Metta World Peace, also known as Ron Artest, a player who won an NBA championship while being on the Lakers team, played for Cantu for a half-season in 2015.
